Pet Care Education

Wright Pet Kennels has compiled definitions of the vaccinations that are required for your pet health care knowledge. Please note that we are in no means veterinarians so contact your pet's veterinarian for more information.

Parvovirus (PARVO) - a highly contagious, often fatal viral disease of dogs, characterized by vomiting, severe diarrhea, and depression and accompanied by high fever and loss of appetite.

Canine Distemper or Distemper (measles) – 1. An infectious viral disease occurring in dogs, characterized by loss of appetite, a catarrhal discharge from the eyes and nose, vomiting, fever, lethargy, partial paralysis caused by destruction of myelinated nerve tissue, and sometimes death. Also called canine distemper.

2. A similar viral disease of cats characterized by fever, vomiting, diarrhea leading to dehydration, and sometimes death. Also called feline distemper, panleukopenia.

3. Any of various similar mammalian diseases.

Rabies – 1. an infectious disease of dogs, cats, and other animals, transmitted by the bite of an infected animal and usually fatal if prophylactic treatment is not administered: caused by an RNA virus of the rhabdovirus group; hydrophobia.

2. An acute, infectious, often fatal viral disease of most warm-blooded animals, especially wolves, cats, and dogs, that attacks the central nervous system and is transmitted by the bite of infected animals.

Bordetella/Kennel Cough – common respiratory infection characterized by inflammation of the trachea and the bronchi in dogs and cats
